It?s been a bad year for Donald Trump when it comes to elections.
His latest voter-based imbroglio, however, has less to do with Washington, and more to do with hotel bars, golf and feisty farmers.
The real estate and resort mogul recently banned Glenfiddich whisky at all of his properties, reportedly after taking offense at some implied opposition to his new Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. (The resort has no hotel yet: one obstacle is Trump?s dispute with a neighboring wind farm project, but that?s a whole other drama.)
Mind you, Glenfiddich didn?t officially oppose the resort?but they did give their annual ?Top Scot? award to Michael Forbes, the local farmer who refused to sell his land to Trump for said golf course (the disagreement is detailed in the recent documentary You?ve Been Trumped).
Trump indicated to the Guardian that the folks at Glenfiddich only tapped Forbes because they resent Trump?s in-house whisky, which Trumps declared to be ?far greater.?
The folks at Glenfiddich, meanwhile, insist that there is no sour grapes (or just whisky sours) between them and the Donald when it comes to their Spirit of Scotland awards: ??Top Scot? is a totally open category? and Glenfiddich has no influence on this decision,? read a recent statement. ?These awards were set up to give the people of Scotland a vote, and we must respect their decision.?
Have you tried Trump?s in-house whisky? How does it compare to the brand names?
